Grounding and Bonding
Course Duration: 4 days
Credits: 3.2 CEUs
Level of Involvement: Hands-on
Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm
Course Number: 417A
Tuition USD: $ 1530
Grounding and bonding systems ensure that electrical systems are safe from electric shock and fires by limiting the voltage imposed by lightning, line surges, or unintentional contact with higher-voltage lines as well as a ground-fault (phase-to-ground fault). Article 250 of the National Electric Code identifies grounding and bonding system installation methods. A properly installed grounding or bonding system for shielding, EMI, static and lightning protection can help prevent cable failures, equipment damage and power quality problems. These systems are also important for personnel protection and compliance with OSHA 1910.301-.308, and .331-.335.
Learning Objectives
• Interpret applicable NEC article 100 and 250 definitions
• Identify safety hazards created by ineffective grounding systems
• Perform 2, 3 and 4 point earth resistivity tests and interpret results
• Tie into a grounding grid
• Explain equipment utilization for lightning suppression, grounding and bonding systems
• Establish correct troubleshooting and counter EMF and noise techniques
• Understand the effect of connecting grounded and bonded systems
Who Should Attend
This course is intended for technicians, electricians, engineers and inspectors responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of grounding and bonding systems greater than 50 volts.
Requirements
This course requires knowledge of the National Electrical Code and basic electrical theory.

How do I register?
Register online using the registration form tab above. You can also register by phone at 1.877.594.3156. The initial registration only requires your contact information – we do not ask for sensitive payment data online. You will want to provide this as early as possible because class sizes are limited, and a confirmed registration can push an unconfirmed registration out, if the class is full. Acceptable payment methods include: Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express number with billing address, expiration date and security code, or a check, wire transfer, purchase order (pending credit approval) or the DD 1556 Form. Credit cards are not charged and PO’s are not invoiced until the first day of class.
Are meals included?
Meals are not provided as part of tuition. We do provide refreshments. Our instructors make recommendations of restaurants in close proximity to each of our training locations.
Is lodging included?
All hotel reservations and charges are the responsibility of the student. We have negotiated discount pricing at various local hotels. Visit training locations for information on recommended hotels and be sure to identify yourself as an AVO Training Institute student to the hotel to get any discounts. What kind of credits do I get?
There are hundreds of different accrediting organizations. Some education providers even create their own “accrediting organizations.” AVO’s courses are reviewed and approved by the International Electrical Testing Association (NETA) for Continuing Education Units. For electricians needing continuing education credits to renew your license - every US State has its’ own accreditation method and in some cases none. You will need to check with your States’ licensing board for the type of education credits they accept.
What if I am an international student?
All international students must pay in full by wire transfer by 21 days prior to class start date. Documentation can be supplied for travel visa requirements following receipt of payment. All listed prices are in US Dollars.
How do I get a replacement certificate?
