Circuit Breaker Maintenance, Molded- and Insulated-Case

Course Duration: 2 days
Credits: 1.6 CEUs
Level of Involvement: Hands-on
Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, the final day ends at 12:00pm

Course Number: 418

Tuition USD: $ 785

Molded and insulated case circuit breakers are the most common low-voltage breaker found in any industrial power system. Both of these types of breakers are enclosed in an insulating housing, while an insulated case breaker is simply a molded case breaker with a stored energy mechanism. While both types require testing and maintenance, insulated case breakers can actually be disassembled and adjusted. With proper maintenance, technicians can prevent nuisance trips, and ensure tripping operations execute as required for equipment protection. In addition to improving electrical system reliability, well maintained circuit breakers also minimize the arc flash hazard energy levels that technicians can be exposed to during a fault.

Learning Objectives
• Identify circuit breaker components
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and safe work procedures for breaker maintenance
• Interpret NEMA breaker maintenance procedures
• Perform complete circuit breaker maintenance and restoration procedures
• Perform and evaluate the results of low resistance, insulation resistance and overcurrent tests
• Verify trip device operation by calculating high current test values from manufacturers' trip curves
• Verify operation of accessories including shunt trip, undervoltage trip, electrical operator, auxiliary and alarm switches

Who Should Attend
This hands-on course is intended for new or experienced electricians and technicians that install, maintain, repair or troubleshoot molded or insulated case circuit breakers, rated less than 1000 VAC, equipped with thermal, magnetic or solid state tripping devices.

Requirements
The student should have basic knowledge of AC/DC electricity. Students must wear long pants and safety toe shoes to complete the lab portion of this course.

How do I register?

Register online using the registration form tab above. You can also register by phone at 1.877.594.3156. The initial registration only requires your contact information – we do not ask for sensitive payment data online. We will typically contact you within 24 hours of receiving your registration to confirm your seat with a payment method. You will want to provide this as early as possible because class sizes are limited, and a confirmed registration can push an unconfirmed registration out, if the class is full. Acceptable payment methods include: Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express number with billing address, expiration date and security code, or a check, wire transfer, purchase order (pending credit approval) or the DD 1556 Form. Credit cards are not charged and PO’s are not invoiced until the first day of class.

Are meals included?

Meals are not provided as part of tuition. We do provide refreshments. Our instructors make recommendations of restaurants in close proximity to each of our training locations.

Is lodging included?

All hotel reservations and charges are the responsibility of the student. We have negotiated discount pricing at various local hotels. Visit training locations for information on recommended hotels and be sure to identify yourself as an AVO Training Institute student to the hotel to get any discounts. Do not make non-refundable lodging arrangements until you receive the course confirmation letter, which is emailed 21 days before the course start.

Is transportation included?

Airfare and transportation charges are the responsibility of the student. There are several free shuttle services we have set up with some of our recommended hotels. Visit training locations for information on hotel shuttle services. Please do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until you receive the course confirmation letter, which is emailed 21 days before the course start. Allow at least 4 hours after class ends before your scheduled flight.

What should I wear?

Casual attire is acceptable. Any specific requirements for hands-on courses will be listed in the description. In general, if you wear safety toe shoes and clothing appropriate for work, you are good to go. It is a good idea to bring your own safety glasses.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Written notice of cancellation or transfer must be received 21 days before the start date of the course or a cancellation fee equal to the tuition will be charged. No shows will be charged the full registration fee. Substitutions of personnel may be made at any time for the same class.

How will I know if a class cancels?

Your account executive will contact you directly and let you know of any alternative openings. At 21 days out we cancel or confirm courses based on the number of confirmed students we have registered.

What kind of credits do I get?

There are hundreds of different accrediting organizations. Some education providers even create their own “accrediting organizations.” AVO’s courses are reviewed and approved by the International Electrical Testing Association (NETA) for Continuing Education Units. For electricians needing continuing education credits to renew your license - every US State has its’ own accreditation method and in some cases none. You will need to check with your States’ licensing board for the type of education credits they accept.

What if I am an international student?

All international students must pay in full by wire transfer by 21 days prior to class start date. Documentation can be supplied for travel visa requirements following receipt of payment. All listed prices are in US Dollars.

How do I get a replacement certificate?

To replace a lost certification and/or wallet card please submit the certification replacement form

Do I get a government discount?

Yes! We do tons of work with the military and other government agencies – so we would like to thank you for your continued business. Any government agency will receive 10% off of all commercial list prices. Just remember to ask your Account Executive for the discount when they take your payment information. On a side note, we do not currently have a GSA schedule. Any contract number you have has expired. But, we do participate in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR), Online Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA), E-Verify and Contractor Manpower Reporting (CMR).

Will I be charged any taxes?

There is no tax on training or training supplies. Consult your states tax laws for tax on freight.
